Bhungro Restro

We were in search of new restaurant to try different taste. As we stroll around basanatapur, we saw a restaurant banner behind a temple. "what an unusual place to open a  restaurant ?" was the first question that popped up in my head. We were so curious to know what exactly is behind that small door. We didn't waste a minute and walked into the restaurant.

Few people were lighting up candles as it was Tihar.  I saw a room with two pool tables and few players enjoying their evening. Then what I saw after that was unexpected. May be due to its location (next to the Hanuman Dhoka Jail!) and small door - I expected a small newari resturant with momo as main dish "local type" where you sit in a lean wooden bench and enjoy your momo with lots of soup. Instead there was small garden with few sittings and a old beautiful traditional house and I must say well maintained. I wished to explore more so we get inside. To my surprise, it was no less than the restaurants at Thamel.  I loved the lights, sitting arrangements, ambiance and the music. They also have a small bar in there .

We just ordered coffee, we did not order other dish as we had to hurry. But I went through their menu and price was not as high as we find in the restaurants in Thamel (resonable price) and they have continental dish along with newari food items and sticks.

Next time, my gathering with friends will be definitely at Bhungro Restro. Must challenging job will be to find the resturant ; ). For your hint, it is opposite to Kal-bhairb and next to the jail of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. There is an art school in the same building. You can view the photographs and hunt down the place.

Behind this temple you will find the restaurant.

I will really appreciate if you can post your experience at this place.
